Then you have definitely seen that Information Technology Infrastructure Library, or ITIL, which is almost at the top of the list.  ITIL practices are basically helpful for companies to identify areas where they need to improve. It provides vendor neutral guidelines to make specific changes and of course to reduce costs and increase productivity. ITIL History: 

Look at the past before investigating on your ITIL practice. U.K.'s Government's Central Communications and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) have formulated a set of recommendations that provides framework which is practical but non-sense to identify, plan, deliver and support IT services for the business.

Based on recommendations from the CCTA specific IT service management best practices has been discussed ITIL library consisting of books.

From 1986 to 1996 more than thirty volumes were there in the initial version of publication Version 1 of ITIL. From 200 to 2001, eight sets of books have been introduced in ITIL Version 2. The books were related to the topics of IT, namely services, applications and management. The CCTA was merged into the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), in the month of April of 2001.

The OGC announced ITIL Version 3 is consisted of twenty six processes, functions and five core publications. These are Service Strategy Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation, and Continual Service Improvement.

ITIL Qualification Scheme:

It uses modular ITIL credit system. Within this credit system All ITIL and ITIL-related qualifications are assigned a credit value. The applicant can qualify to the test For a higher level of certification. Five levels of qualification have been discussed here.

ITIL Foundation scores candidates with 2 credits and consists of 40 multiple choice questions. These are about the key elements, concepts and terminology associated with ITIL service life cycle management.

Intermediate Level in ITIL scores the candidate with 15 or 16 credits. The candidate who have already passed the ITIL Foundation exam and finished an accredited training course, this level is open for them. Two elements of this intermediate level are Service Lifecycle examinations and Service Capability examinations.

ITIL Expert Level scores the candidate with 22 credits which are gained through pass the ITIL Foundation, MALC exams and Intermediate Level .

ITIL Master Qualification needs those candidates who have already qualified for ITIL Expert level. Here candidates have to explain about the way they have been selected or applied a range of knowledge, principles, methods and techniques from ITIL and supporting management techniques.

The candidate is given the certification after completing a given level of the ITIL examination. Each level of certification includes earning a specific number of credits and each level has its own requirement. Even for other IT certifications which are known as ITIL Complementary Qualifications, credits are provided by the ITIL Credit System. The applicant needs to be passed including Problem Analyst, Lean IT, ISO/IEC 20000, Service Catalogue, IT Service Management Foundation etc.
